About Angela

My first experiences as a doula came before I even knew what a doula was. Out of necessity, I had the opportunity to help a friend give birth and discovered that I was able to help with the process in a deeply meaningful way. This lead to helping another friend through pregnancy and labor, then another, and another. It was done purely out of love, friendship and the appreciation for being part of such an incredible, life altering experience. I still hadn’t considered that it could be a career path but after helping my mother navigate through dementia and end of life, I realized that my ability to act as a support and guide spanned a wide range from the most joyous moments to challenges and struggles that no one should go through alone. With this realization, it was clear that I had been on the path to becoming a doula, and in fact had been acting as a doula for many years when I decided to take the next steps by completing my doula certification.

+ - More about Angela

Aside from being a doula, I’m a lifelong fine artist and seasoned graphic designer. I began my academic career at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where I received a merit scholarship and was invited to study abroad at Studio Arts College International (SACI) in Florence, Italy. After completing my BFA, I relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where I began my study of Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Phoenix. In 2008, I made the big move to Los Angeles, where I currently live with my husband, Eric and all of our amazing pets.

I like to call our home “The Farm”. We have a bunny, a rescue dog, and a sweet kitty who found his way to us and just never left (they tend to do that). I am an avid gardener and I have come to terms with the fact that I have more plants than I know what to do with, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Healthy eating is extremely important to me and cooking is a big part of our daily life. I believe very strongly in the idea that food is a healer and have been vegetarian for over 14 years. I have an extreme amount of compassion for all living things and will absolutely go out of my way to even relocate spiders!

A day at the beach? Yes please! Roller skating? Absolutely! Disco dancing? I’m in! Beauty treatments and self care nights with the girls? Whenever I get the chance!

Testimonials

Angela provided such amazing support to both my husband and I. We are so thankful to have taken this journey with her by our side. She was so incredible and went above and beyond our needs. She consistently followed up, provided tons of helpful resources, and had so many tools for when labor began. She wrote EVERYTHING down during the birthing process, which was so thoughtful and gave us a detailed story line of whay happened, when it happened and who did it, so we could reminisce and create the perfect and most accurate birth story. She also created a beautiful environment in my labor and delivery room that perfectly aligned with my vision. We built an eternal bond that only a few special people know and understand. We are blessed to have met such a special and caring human. We definitely couldn’t recommend her more, and will be thrilled to use her again!

We loved Angela so much. Every session was jam packed with information, and so is her packet that she builds for you. All the information is neatly organized and designed in a way that you can glance over it, or pull it whenever you need a refresher. It was so nice when we were at the hospital, whenever the doctors or nurses would ask us a question we felt confident in answering because Angela had totally prepared us, and we had time to talk it over rather than being put on the spot.

I got induced, and ended up taking almost 48 hours before the baby came. Angela was right there beside us to help with whatever we needed. She kept me up and moving, set up our hospital room for comfort, and stayed by my side the entire time. My biggest takeaway was that I would have definitely felt more scared the whole time without her there. I just didn’t have any experience in most of this stuff. Because of her I had a smooth labor and delivery with no birth trauma.

She made sure my husband felt informed and included in the entire process. She felt like a part of the family and I wouldn’t change anything. If you can only have two people in the room with you, I recommend having your support person and Angela! (I kept joking to leave the mothers/mother in laws in the waiting room) She also took a ton of great photos and videos of the whole process that we will cherish forever.

Hiring Angela as our doula was the best decision we’ve made! As first-time parents, we didn’t know what to expect throughout our pregnancy or labor & delivery. One can read all the books, but you’re never fully prepared – which is why having Angela by our side was so incredibly calming and grounding. She quite literally was by our side during the labor period at the hospital and during the birth of our beautiful baby girl!

She also regularly checked in on us during our pregnancy and postpartum periods. Her messages always offered us such strength and encouragement.

Throughout our entire journey, Angela was so calm and present, positive and encouraging, grounded and incredibly organized. It felt as though we had a medical expert, therapist, life coach, friend, and long-lost family member all rolled into one person.

Our beautiful little girl has already changed our lives in so many ways, and our experience would not have been the same without Angela. Truly, all the beautiful energy, knowledge, tools and mindsets she helped introduce into our lives is something we will keep with us forever. Her love, patience, guidance, and compassion on one of the most special days of our lives is something we will never forget.

Angela is the most incredible doula! Where do I even begin! From my initial call with Angela, I knew immediately that we were a perfect fit. She has such a positive, uplifting and calming presence which is everything you need in labor. This was my second birth, an unmediated hospital birth. Angela took so much time getting to know me and all of my birth preferences. She was there for me at any hour of the day and had wonderful resources for anything I needed, including birth prep exercises/streches, breathing techniques, teaching my partner how to support me during my birth, etc.

When I went into labor, Angela replied immediately in the middle of the night and helped me through early labor until I needed her active help at the hospital. Her communication was wonderful and reassuring through the process. Once in the hospital, she made my room a sanctuary with special lights and claming music and came prepared with so many tools to help me relax and manage the pain naturally. One special thing that really stood out about my experience with Angela was that she stayed with me in the hospital until I was settled in my postpartum room post delivery.

I can’t recommend Angela enough!! She is such a kind and caring person! She made my birth so special and I’m so grateful for her!

I was single mother, and as my due date approached, I needed to find a stand-in ‘dad/partner’ for my labor and delivery. I wanted this person to be someone I could trust and someone who would support me in a vulnerable situation. I asked my dear friend, Angela, if she would help me through the birth of my daughter.

I couldn’t have chosen a better person to be by my side through the excruciating labor pains, contractions, walking the hospital hallways…she wiped my brow and held my hand, as I pushed my sweet girl into this world. I am forever grateful that she was there to support me. Ava loves her Auntie Angie!

I call Angela my labor and delivery fairy godmother! As a first time mom, I had a lot of anxiety about this process (as did my husband) and everything Angela did put me at ease. We were in constant communication leading up to and during labor, and she was always quick and educated with her responses. Angela has a great knack for reading the room – she knows when to intervene, when to provide courage, strength, and support, and when to take a step back. During what is arguably the most vulnerable time in my life, I never once felt judged or uncomfortable with Angela. As someone that definitely wanted a medicated birth, I was worried a doula wouldn’t be supportive of that decision, but Angela defied this expectation, instead providing me with all the information and tools about what medication was available and how to figure out the right time to implement them. When I went to the hospital at midnight, Angela met me there right at the same time and walked me through every medical decision while also providing a great atmosphere and incredible vibes. When I decide to have another baby, Angela will be my first call. I cannot recommend Angela enough – I only wish that every birthing person could have them with her on their journey!

Words can never describe the gratitude my husband and I feel towards Angela. We interviewed several doulas but something about Angela drew us in.. most definitely her sense of humor and laid back vibes. She was thorough in explaining her process and quick to answer any questions we had. She sent over so many helpful links and made us feel beyond comfortable with giving birth and our decisions. She is truly a gem. Not only did she stay on the phone with me for hours while I started early labor at home, but she was also at the hopsital with us for 24 hours as I pushed and pushed. She was holding my legs, wiping my sweat, saying hi to my hemorrhoids, squeezing my hand, etc etc etc and just being the BEST support system you could ever ask for. All the nurses knew and loved her as well which made being in labor so much more calming. Lo and behold, I ended up having to get a C section but my husband and I joke that for our next child we would hire her again just so we could hang out together. She is a 100/10.

Angela is a huge part of the reason I look back fondly at my labor experience. She is worth every penny and more! Truly don’t know what I would have done without her.

Christina

From the moment we met Angela, it felt like we knew her for ever, just felt like family some how. This being our first child, and both of our families on the midwest; we were a bit nervous. After sitting down and talking to Angela for our first meet way past our scheduled time (we could have sat there all day), we couldn’t stop talking about how she felt like family, and that is what it felt like with the preparation she was giving us, having Angela in the room, and in our corner. I seriously have no clue how we could have done this without her. I had to go back home and check on our fur baby while my wife was going through a 36 hour labor, I felt no stress because I knew Angela was there with my wife. She set the mood with the room, she allowed me to get some rest and she made my wife feel SO comfortable and times I wanted to shed happy tears, made this experience so relaxing and memorable. Even after baby was born, I was able to go back home again, to set up and check on furbaby, and felt like our baby, and my tired wife was with family (angela was like a robot somehow lol catering the entire time). I was so at peace. If we ever plan on having another child we without a doubt will accept no one else but Angela to be in our corner. Until that day may or may not come, we are lucky enough to have not only experienced this the best way possible, but gain a lifelong friend. Thank you Angie!!

Angela was a God-send for us. We knew she would be a great fit from our first meetup with her. She is compassionate, calm, caring, and an overall positive presence. I felt confident in my labor and delivery process because she was by my side. She was helpful and non-judgmental every step of the way, even as my preferences for my labor changed. She helped explain everything along the way and encouraged me to make the best decisions for myself and my baby in the moment. I’d highly recommend her to anyone seeking a doula in the Los Angeles area.

I’m going to get emotional writing this. Angela was such a gift. From our very first meeting, she made me feel like a long time friend. She brought a lot of knowledge that was really helpful since it was my first pregnancy. Fast forward to the day I was forced to induce labor because of a health issue, I started to feel jaded about getting a doula because so much was thrown my way, I thought she wouldn’t be able to help. But given the relationship we were already building, I knew that if I kept her updated on the situation, she would find a way. Unfortunately, my birth plan really changed but NOT ONCE did she make me feel bad about it. Every time I talked to her, she would offer suggestions on how she could help. The situation was complex, but she kept adjusting to my needs. And it wasn’t just words. When she showed up to my room, she came with her bag of goodies. As my pain got worse and worse, she brought out a different tool that helped me keep going. During the contractions, she was always checking to see if the positions we were trying were still working. She was VERY very present with me and my comfort. She was also present with my husband, which was a relief because I thought I would be psychotic with him… but because of Angela’s energy, I never snapped at him. There was such a good balance between all of us. Still, her words were powerful: she was that voice that reassured me that it would be ok and I was handling it well. She said all the right things. The cherry on top was the relationship I saw that she had built with some of the nurses previously. She was great about making all of us – doctors and nurses too – ONE team. That helped my experience go by a lot faster than I thought it would (and the doctors & nurses later agreed). I had such a beautiful birthing experience and she was one of the main reasons why. The next day, my doctor even came in to tell me I had a really good doula. So there were actually a lot of cherries on top.

My wife was thinking about her testimonial and I insisted on writing one too. We had a very unique and unfortunate situation so my wife had to induce labor 5 weeks early. It was a very stressful time for our family because of this, and it was the last thing you’d want to go through with any of your pregnancies, let alone the first one for both of us. Stress and fear were at an all-time high for me. I was a total wreck. When Angela came in, it immediatley took (some of) the weight off my shoulders. She’s such a calming energy that – even though she was there to support my wife – helped me to settle down and focus on the birthing process. My wife was in a lot of pain and couldn’t take any of the medications because of her situation. Angela brought out all the tricks to naturally alleviate her pain (and my emotional pain). In addition to being attentive to my wife, she was also quick to build rapport with the nurses, doctors. She’s such a people person that a couple of the nurses remembered her, which helped build a sense of community in the room. It really felt like a team in there and it helped me avoid thinking about all the things that could go wrong. I’ll also note that days later… we spoke with one of our doctors when he came to check up on my wife. He mentioned that usually they have a combative relationship with doulas because they’re so set on natural births. He said: “but you had a really good doula.” So this is like a 2-fer testimonial: one from the husband/father, and one from a doctor. Again… I am seriously and eternally grateful for Angela and her role that day. For any husbands/fathers who may think their wife is being a little “weird” trying to get a doula (like, admittedly, I was in the beginning lol), do yourself a favor and make sure it’s Angela.
